Kooboo has three editions. Free community edition, commercial light edition and professional edition.

The differences between free GPL and commercial version is the rights and service support you may receive. There is no difference in functionality.


When do you need a commercial license?

You only need the commercial license when you need the followings

- You want to develop & sell "closed source" software based on Kooboo CMS
- You want to re-brand and re-license Kooboo CMS in a different name under a Non-GPL license.
- You want guarantee response time by email or forum.
- You want real time live chat (MSN or skype) support
- You want onsite support & fix.
- You want free access to all commercial modules & tools from Kooboo company

The idea of GPL license is that everyone must release his derived work under GPL license with full source code. GPL does not mean that you can not charge fee for your work. If you do not like to offer source code to your clients, you can purchase a light edition license from us at the cost of 149 US$.

Any fee we received from light edition will be used to help the development of Kooboo. By purchasing a light edition, you are supporting the Kooboo community.

Besides the core framework of Kooboo, Kooboo team are developing all kind of modules,including but not limited to email newsletter, banner management, ecommerce. Most of those modules will be free and open source. Some of them will only be available for support service subscribers.
